Face of Maternal-Child Services

Shanika Valcour-LeDuff, Founder and Director

Labor and Love is a full-service Maternal-Child health, wellness and support organization. We provide support to families during the perinatal period and beyond. Labor and Love was founded to be a solid source of love and support to New Orleans families during the most beautiful and vulnerable times. We strive to provide high-quality health and wellness as well as birth and postpartum support services.

How do you like to get involved in our community? I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. I founded Labor and Love in 2018 after overcoming my own hardships during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Now, I serve as director of the organization and lead an amazing team of birth workers, including doulas, location consultants, and nurses who pour their love and expertise into NOLA families. Together, we have created a beautiful village of support.

What sets your organization apart in providing support to families in New Orleans? Our organization is special because it is exactly what every family needs. We have a great team with a range of experience and niches. This allows us to cater to the diverse needs of families in the city of New Orleans. We lead everything we do with love, and it truly matters. Labor and Love mommies/babies/families truly become part of our family. They feel this love and support from us, and it never really ends. We also have a great relationship with many partner organizations in the city. This allows us to make meaningful referrals to ensure all support or gaps can be addressed.

What services are offered? We provide full-spectrum doula services, lactation/breastfeeding services, postpartum support (including overnight doula support), childbirth education (including Lamaze), and other health/wellness/parenting education to prepare and support families during birthing, breastfeeding, and beyond. We provide health and wellness services during pregnancy and through early childhood.
